Water damage gets worse with time, so what you do first matters.
Do this now
- Switch it off. Don’t turn it back on to check whether it works.
- Don’t charge it. Power going through a wet board causes the most damage.
- Take off the case and any SIM tray, and wipe off the water you can see.
- Bring it in as soon as you can, and tell us what it got wet with.
Don’t
- Don’t put it in rice. Rice doesn’t draw water out from inside the phone and can leave dust in the ports.
- Don’t use a hairdryer. Heat can damage the screen and battery.
- Don’t shake it or blow into the ports. It pushes water further in.
Water-resistant phones
Many phones are water-resistant, but not waterproof, and seals wear over time. Treat any phone that’s been submerged as wet inside.
If the phone won’t start again, the photos and files on it may still be recoverable. Ask us about data recovery.
