Before you sell or trade in a phone, remove your accounts and data. A phone still linked to your account can’t be set up by anyone else, and your data stays private.
iPhone
- Back up to iCloud or a computer. See how to back up.
- Sign out of iCloud: open Settings, tap your name, then Sign Out. This also turns off Find My.
- Reset: open Settings, then General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone, then Erase All Content and Settings.
Android
- Back up your phone, and check Google Photos has finished uploading.
- Remove your Google account: open Settings, then Accounts (or Passwords & accounts), choose your Google account and tap Remove account. On Samsung phones, remove your Samsung account too.
- Reset: open Settings, then System (or General management), then Reset options, then Erase all data (factory reset).
Also remember
- Take out your SIM card and any memory card.
- If you’ve already reset the phone, remove it from your Apple or Google account online.
- Bring valid photo ID when you sell to us.
